i think part of the whole “weary / wary” confusion among writers is because there’s a third word, “leery”

which sounds similar to the word “weary” (tired) if you hear it aloud

but has a meaning similar to the word “wary” (cautious, worried)

i see lots of posts about the difference between weary and wary but i never see them call out the sneaky third word that’s at fault for a lot of that confusion
