I’m sorry I can’t let this go. It’s an identity DISC. It’s a DISC. Not an identity TRIANGLE. Identity DISC with a C, as in circle. Not a disk, as in diskette. It’s supposed to be a circle! WHY does it look like a traffic sign!

I love how this really throws a wrench in the whole folk-etymology idea that that “discs” are round and “disks” are square (but then that already didn’t make sense, because a floppy disk is also round, it just has a square case around it to facilitate insertion into the Machine)

… how does it WORK can the lasers only read the parts out to a certain point or do they have some way to read the protruding bits too
…i remember tiny CDs (once had a digital camera that used them) they could be played on a regular sized cd player they just left a lot of empty space in it…. maybe it’s like that but with some purely decorative additions around the outside?
