I’m sorry I can’t let this go. It’s an identity DISC. It’s a DISC. Not an identity TRIANGLE. Identity DISC with a C, as in circle. Not a disk, as in diskette. It’s supposed to be a circle! WHY does it look like a traffic sign!
I hear what you’re saying, but also, let me introduce you to the wonderful world of shaped compact discs.
aaaaaaa
I love how this really throws a wrench in the whole folk-etymology idea that that “discs” are round and “disks” are square (but then that already didn’t make sense, because a floppy disk is also round, it just has a square case around it to facilitate insertion into the Machine)
but anyway what is with these irregular shaped Discs. How.
… how does it WORK can the lasers only read the parts out to a certain point or do they have some way to read the protruding bits too
…i remember tiny CDs (once had a digital camera that used them) they could be played on a regular sized cd player they just left a lot of empty space in it…. maybe it’s like that but with some purely decorative additions around the outside?
Okay I have to look some things up now hahaha
❤️
Oooh
So
Yeah that last speculation was basically right
Cooooool
So the takeaway is that a Disc/Disk will always be round, and any non-round parts on the periphery are for purposes Not Related to the data storage itself
(In Tron terms this …probably means nothing. because everything in the computer world is just a symbolic representation of some command or function or something, and doesn’t HAVE to look any particular way.)
(BUT, if these programs are being made to do battle in the User world…. this implies that the shape has a purpose that has to follow User World Physics. And I am… struggling to think of anything here.)
