calling wisconsin “WIN” is like watching your amazing friend fall head over heels for some guy named like kyle or somethng.

girl that’s not a win

Lmao

It seems to have gotten us disturbingly merged together with so-called WIN, too

(… conjoined WINs)

And the layers of wrong in

1. calling Minnesota, which is nowhere near New Jersey, a name clearly stolen from the New Jersey part of the dataset

2. Changing it just enough that it no longer has an R in it

3. Still labeling it as a state with R in its name, despite R occurring nowhere in either “Minnesota” or “New Jefst” for godsake

This is pissing me off in so many ways because it reminds me of back when early, experimental neural networks were doing this multi-level Dada nonsense all the time, when choosing names for guinea pigs or making up knitting patterns, and always turning it into such utter useless surrealism that it would make me laugh until i couldn’t breathe

And now ….Now it’s somehow …. not that funny anymore, even though it’s doing just as much of a bizarrely bad job.

Because now I’m reminded that this stuff is being used far beyond experimental projects like that, being relied on, for things it should absolutely never touch, on a scale that’s causing alarming amounts of harm to the world and society, in more ways than I can list, and…

… and it’s still doing this bullshit.

God. I am sooooo torn between laughing and crying, I swear.
