“"Ram.’ Hah, never understood why you named your program like a sheep, when that little minx is soooo definitely cat-coded.”
“…Flynn. How did you KNOW about that…?”
“Um….? What? Roy, I was joking…. what are you even asking….”
“How did you know about the …cat-coded thing.”
“Um. Roy? I’m gonna have to ask what you mean by that.”
“The cat-coded thing! I mean, I know you knew I was taking care of Fluffy and her kittens, back when I was writing insurance software! But how did you know about… that thing where she would sit on my keyboard whenever I took a popcorn break?… and half the time I’d come back to find she’d accidentally hit the compile command, and so I’d end up with s program that was half cat-keysmashes? And how usually I’d have to redo it…. but that one time, I was in too much of a hurry, and also the keysmashes that time all somehow ended up being harmless, and the thing still compiled and worked?? So… I ended up selling one insurance company an actuarial calculator that technically had two programmers, me and Fluffy? …..That cat-coded thing.”
“Huh.”
“Flynn? Something wrong?”
“No. No, it just… um… explains a lot.”
So
After i wrote that, my pattern recognizer was making a whole bunch of connections at once like:
“ram being part cat is cool because nine lives, therefore rerezzed”
“the phrase ‘Cat RamRerezzed’ reminds me that the name 'Cat Ramirez’ sounds familiar, who was that again”
“okay Wikipedia search for Cat Ramirez brings up someone named Sara Ramirez, but the only mention of 'cat’ in that article is that Sara Ramirez played a character named 'Kat’ in something”
“interesting. Both these people are nonbinary and use they/them pronouns.”
“which fits in nicely with my nonbinary Ram headcanon.”
“… additionally bolstered by the idea that Ram may be half male human and half female cat, which I hadn’t even thought of when i wrote it”
“ok this is almost canon to me now. Ram the interspecies two-programmer program. Uses they/them pronouns when they feel like it. For both gender reasons and a bit of plural reasons. …..Perfect sense.”
…the pattern recognizer, folks. This is what living in my head’s like.
WAIT
What if there was a program made entirely of cat keyboard smashes?! Would it be a kitty in the system, incomprehensible but adorable to other programs? Ahhhhh!
I KNOW RIGHT
Would look like a cat (because program mirrors user) and also act like a cat (because composed of total gibberish)
