Whenever people are like “you complain about AI datacenters yet stream videos from Netflix” it makes me so mad because we actually have the technology already to do streaming videos without Netflix. In fact, it predates Netflix. It’s called torrenting, no data center required. The downside is that it’s illegal, requiring the use of a VPN and a lot of risk of malicious software being snuck into a file.

It’s just some real “yet you participate in society” shit. Our broken IP laws don’t allow consumers to share and watch movies, but they do allow “AI” companies to train their software off those same movies without permission and the result is a bunch of useless, unnecessary data centers wasting lots of resources.

That’s not our fucking fault, it’s a systemic issue.
