Listen. The whole “is xyz a bug” thing. A lot of people will hear you say something like “shimp is bugs” and reply “those are [uhhh i actually dont know what shrimp are off the top of my head. Crustaceans maybe?], not insects!” And the thing is, they arent wrong, but theyre missing the point.
Shrimps isnt insects. But shrimps sure is bugs.
Because “bug” isnt a scientific classification. It’s a general term, non-scientific, socially used to refer to all manner of creepy crawlies including everything from arachnids to arthropods to who knows what else.
So if it got limbs (or sometimes not limbs) and maybe an exoskeleton and it perhaps wriggles, that could be a bug. To someone. To me, even.
Shrimps is bugs. Worms is bugs. Spiders is bugs.
They just arent insects.
I agree
However
I love (and hate) how there is also an official scientific meaning of “bugs” that doesn’t even include most insects
Fuckin “true bugs.” Gatekeeping bughood, wtf
