In early episode, Paige said “they usually won’t last this long.” Meaning Beck is either very good at seeing opportunity or programmed to be special. However, over the series we can see that Beck isn’t a mere mechanic. He’s talented, has high battle IQ. Yes he might’ve done stupid things but compared to Tron, he’s way more rational like the whole situation with Dyson or Cyrus. Cyrus was Renegade and his whole arc is about how frustrating it is to bare the responsibilities of both Tron and his people. Yet Beck is so dang goated he never gives up whenever Tron tests him. Who is he supposed to be in TRON: Legacy? Rinzler??? You can’t tell me that dude isn’t gifted, he literally outsmarted Tesler (and with that sacred glovesss).
Hell, this show remind me of Batman: Beyond so much I’m gonna act surprised if Beck’s user turns out to be Alan son/nephew all this time.
This post is what made me realize that Alan’s now non-canon son from Tron 2.0, Jet, has a very similar haircut/overall look to Beck, or vice versa.
especially in the light suit…
Pretty sure someone (@evecolourshock maybe?) wrote a little fic with this premise a while ago?
Not sure if it’s the fic you’re thinking of, but it was certainly alluded to in this one.
Other than that, not sure, but it’s certainly a headcanon that makes sense.
(I also wrote a snippet where Cyrus is Sam’s Program here, if you’re interested - someone pointed out how the reflections on Sam’s face during one scene look a lot like Cyrus’ circuits, and they look surprisingly alike in general, so I wanted to experiment with how that would work.)
Oooh!
Come to think of it, pretty sure the ficlet I’m imagining is by @allronix but I’m not having an easy time finding it. Ah well.
