people saying “vance is worse” don’t get it. I want trump to die, not because I want the country to heal, but because I want trump to die.

And Vance is not worse. He served part of a single Senate term and before that he was an author, venture capitalist (kinda) and a lawyer. You have to have 1) skills and 2) a network to be worse.

People used to say that about Mike Pence in Trump’s first term and Pence was also an incompetent politician who no one liked before he got scooped up by Trump. Has Pence built his own cult following since Trump tried to sic a mob on him on Jan. 6? No. Because Trump is the one with the rabid cult following.

Every person who says/said Vance or Pence is worse is saying, “I don’t know what I’m talking about.” It’s kinda like the people who think cities are crime-ridden hellholes. They just want to have some abstract thing to be scared of. The thing to be scared of is already in the presidency. You already have the bad thing. And so yeah. Hopefully he dies sooner rather than later.

People need to tell me with a straight face that they think a creampuff like Vance is going to intimidate all these Republican men who get on their knees for Trump. C'mon. He’s not going to be able to throw his weight around, and MAGA don’t respect him.

Not to say him being president is good. But Trump is worse in every conceivable way.

Vance will certainly be bad, but Trump’s horribleness is especially unique in that combination of utter delusion, narcissism, and a complete lack of shame never before recorded in other human beings. No one can convincingly fake all that to create that same sort of Cult of Personality, and those who have tried have failed.

Vance is not chummy with Putin. Vance does not have strong political influence over most of the Republican senators. Vance does not have businesses begging him to have him use their money. Vance’s face is not on, is not going to be on, thousands of maga t-shirts.

Vance’s political goals might vaguely be worse (and I say vaguely because T’s goals are “the goals of whoever’s doing the best job of pandering to his ego this week,” so those could very much be worse than whatever Vance wants), but Vance does not have the influence to pull them off.

SCOTUS is not going to warp the Constitution and throw out decades of established legal precedent to make Vance happy.

And Vance didn’t personally choose & place all the appointed positions in the federal gov’t - those people are not loyal to Vance. Vance does not have a network of corrupt cronies ready to jump into those spaces.

Vance is not worse.

Someday soon, I am hoping to log into tumblr and have nothing but endless crab raves, one post after another, so it’s impossible for other news or any discussion of other topics to get through.

….These are good points.

Especially about the horribleness of the current one being largely because he commands so much power to do horrible things via his cult of (horrible) personality.

I admit I’ve had some thoughts to the effect of “what does it matter if he dies, all the systemic problems that led to this will still continue with different assholes in charge of them, we put too much significance on the evilness of specific assholes”….

BUT. When i think about it, I realize this goes both ways. The other side also puts too much significance on that specific asshole.

Sure, this wouldn’t happen without systemic problems. But, there’s currently no one else who can stir up quite so much support to use those systemic problems to make themselves and all other problems even worse.

It won’t end all the problems, but it would be a step.

I have to hope, anyway.
