There are two types of writers:
1. ‘It’s fiction, it doesn’t need to make sense!’
2. 'I didn’t account for the rotation of the planet and how that affects the constalations while my characters stargazed at different times of year, I have failed as a writer, and this entire thing is trash’
This hits so hard. I woke up in a cold sweat last night realizing that the weather never changes in one of my long fics and I should probably be flogged for this.
Reason to write only Tron fic: every scene is either in The Computer World or in Basically Los Angeles
(still does add some realism to include weather changes, I guess… since it technically does rain sometimes in both LA and Flynn’s Grid. But a long time without narrative-relevant weather events in either place is just… business as usual.)
(you just…. have to be careful never to say the sun rose or set in the place that doesn’t have a sun. Or to have units of time like days, hours, minutes or years get mentioned by characters who wouldn’t know about them.)
(….. probably just as much of a minefield honestly)
