Okay listen. If you have a bathroom with only a toilet and sink it’s call it a half bath. But there are three main components of a bathroom, the shower/tub, the sink, and the toilet. So a “half” bath is actually a 2/3rds bath. They’re lying about how much bathroom you have.

The way that some of you conceptualize bathrooms confuses and frightens me.

Agreed

But it might be more about the way the realtors in our areas conceptualize bathrooms

For example: where I live, if you look at house or apartment listings? This is the language you learn:

Full bath: toilet, sink, bathtub with shower

¾ bath: toilet, sink, shower (no bathtub)

½ bath: toilet and sink

¼ bath: toilet only. (I’ve only seen this in a house listing once. The realtor told me this means a toilet in a little closet in the basement, and if you wanna wash your hands afterwards you go to the laundry sink. My parents had one of these in their basement, but I hadn’t known it was called that. But when we toured the house with that listing, there actually was no toilet in the basement. I asked if they were trying to call the laundry sink a ¼ bath, and she said no, there’s definitely supposed to be a toilet, they just wrote the listing wrong)

Anyway: people’s minds are weird, and (both affecting and affected by that) official word definitions used in print are also weird.

Go figure.
