qyrhan:

Controversial thought that might get me burned but I genuinely want more Tron content that doesn’t hinge upon Tron himself being in it.

I want more stories focusing on the lives of other programs that aren’t Tron, I want to know how they feel, I want insight into their own experiences within their respective grids.

Yes, the movie franchise itself is called “Tron”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he has to be a focal point for every new installment.

That in and of itself would risk making the story stagnate. I love him dearly, but I want new things. I want new avenues to be taken without the need to throw in a pre-established main program just to make sure people pay attention to the story.

…Me too honestly?

I mean, Tron and Yori and Ram are characters I will love and protect with my life forever, but their presence or absence doesn’t make or break a Tron story.

I’m drawn to that world for the ideas of it– the concept of what a world in a computer would be like– with an in-system manifestation of each thing we do with our keyboards and screens, appearing as something in the programs’ lives, sometimes a thing that might even be familiar to us, as people– having a drink, doing a job, praying to a god? –and yet different in its own fascinating, part-alien sort of way.

And even funny, a lot of the time! Because seeing these connections, these parallels, between ourselves and something else that we can anthropomorphize– is often the sort of insight that sets off our sense of humor!

I want Tron media that isn’t afraid to play up those amusing and whimsical parallels, as well as getting into the deeper and more serious meaning of it all.

And I want more of it in a system like 1982 Encom. One that evolved on its own, not actively trying to mimic the human world– just happening to echo and mirror it here and there, through the nature of whatever phenomenon caused it to form.

Basically, of all the post-1982 Tron media? …I gotta say 2.0 was my favorite.

And it did fine without Tron being there.

(honestly he deserved a vacation from all that anyway.)
