I’m tired of hot Spock propaganda.

“Oh Ethan peck is hot Spock.” “I’m so glad Spock is hot now.”

You’re telling me you watched TOS and didn’t go feral every time Spock exposed his forearm? 11 year old me (and me now) decided that was the male beauty standard.

Yeah I’m with @quantumseeker, many of us went feral for Nimoy’s Spock.

Like.

Some of us still are.👀

Isaac Asimov, during the heyday of 1960’s Spock’s sex appeal, wrote a delightful essay about it

Which focused on the… (at the time, when nerds vs jocks was still quite a war) rather shocking idea… that intelligence could be an attractive trait

But Asimov later acknowledged other factors, such as the attraction of the unattainable

Which, yeah, is pretty strong in original Spock. But… the power of a little bit of gender nonconformity also can’t be ignored.

Spock was not the time’s usual sex idol of a very masculine human man– since that’s a stereotype which, after all, does contain at least as much illogical behavior as the stereotype of a very feminine human woman.

Spock appealed to outsiders, in many ways. And as much as I do sometimes take issue with his idea of what “logic” is… he did lay a lot of groundwork for nerd culture embracing the possibility of not going along with social norms that make no sense to you.

…Which is sexy as fuck.
