The delicious thing about SecUnit is that it isn’t suicidal, it has a personal desire to live, it just doesn’t see its desires as important or its own life as a thing of any intrinsic value worth protecting. Therefore it chooses time and again to risk itself for virtual strangers. Added sauce is that it bitches about it the whole time

I gotta read these. Because I love finding new kinds of self-sacrificing fictional characters.

….As a kid who always got misunderstood by therapists, the closest I ever came to relating to a fictional depiction of depression was Marvin the Android in Hitchhiker’s Guide.

Except in this case, it’s because his “depression” involved absolutely no underestimate of his own value– rather, an extremely high opinion of his own value – swelled head big enough to hold that “brain the size of a planet” he’s always bragging about– plus a severe underestimate of everyone else’s value, and therefore an expectation that they were incapable of understanding his greatness and therefore could always be expected to treat him terribly.

Which manifested, of course, as acting as if he put no value on himself or any effort at ever having anything nice for himself (since he saw it as simply an impossibility, due to everyone else’s suckitude).

…and yeah, bitching about it the whole time.
