Uprising introducing the concept of strays and glitches as a side effect for programs being away from their discs for too long is endlessly fascinating to me and I am so sad that we haven’t been able to see more of that concept explored

I’ve talked about this before, but as a Pattern Recognizer I’ve made whatever connections I could (regardless of whether any of it was deliberate on the part of scriptwriters) and I, too, found that idea compelling enough that my headcanon ended up expanding and tying it into the original movie

I’m now convinced (Watsonian, not Doylist, definitely not convinced this was on purpose, but still convinced) that the same rules held true in the Encom system. That all programs naturally have discs…. and can go “stray” from being separated from them… and in some cases the MCP used that as a means of control

And that the reason Yori was so zoned-out and didn’t recognize Tron at first when he found her, was because she was almost a stray.

MCP had taken her away from her laser job, made her work on the Sailer dock…. and restricted access to her disc, made her keep it in her quarters and would only let her sync with it once after each work shift (and the shifts were long enough that she’d be nearly half-zombie halfway through)

(relatable AF… alas poor yori)

Meaning that when Tron managed to shake her out of it by giving her his familiar face to focus on, he was doing the same thing he did for Beck in Uprising.
