I recently read a post where someone pointed out that male reindeer lose their horns during winter, while female reindeer keep theirs until spring/summer, and that this would mean that Santa’s reindeers, who are usually depicted with horns during December, would therefore all have to be female.
Now, I do think that “Dasher”, “Dancer”, “Prancer”, “Vixen”, “Comet”, “Cupid”, “Donner” and “Blitzen” could all be considered gender neutral or feminine names…
But what about the most famous reindeer of all?
That’s right:
Rudolph, the transmasc reindeer.
hahaaa
…this is actually kinda related to the truth
at least, when I looked this up a while ago, I found out that reindeer that are used to pull sleighs are usually neutered males
whose antlers follow a pattern more similar to females
so yep. if any of those reindeer were AMAB, they have now gotten their orchiectomy and are sporting girl antlers!
…and Rudolph could be an outlier in multiple ways!
we’ve got the masculine-sounding name, and the pronouns in all versions of the tale
…and also we’ve got numerous pieces of art showing him with antlers on a clearly different cycle from the rest of them?

…which I think is meant to imply he’s younger. and it could be that.
but who knows! maybe he’s the one transmasc in a herd of trans ladies, taking reindeer T for male antler growth.
