These are my favorite isekai anime. Of them, which is the best?
The Wizard of Oz
The Neverending Story
Farscape
Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness
The Chronicles of Narnia
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
Outlander
Tron
The Matrix
Black Knight (2001)
Alice in Wonderland
Labyrinth (1986)
See ResultsLmao at these all being anime
I’d vote Tron, except @coupleofdays says it’s actually donghua because some of the animation was done in a Taiwanese studio
(Unless we’re talking Uprising?)
Uprising can be anime but lacks key elements of being isekai; Beck isn’t transported into an alternate world, he just lives on the Grid to begin with.
True, true. You could include Uprising in anime if you really stretch the definition to include anything that had animation done in Japan, by the same logic that could make the original movie count as donghua– but even my rules-lawyering, loophole-fucking Pattern Recognizer brain wouldn’t try to stretch “isekai” that far, lol.
(it’d end up as “person gets sucked into an unfamiliar situation in the same world they’ve always been in” and thats … just literally all fiction)
