yknow it really is so crazy to watch people be actively dismissive if not outright acidic towards female love interests just because they headcanon a character as gay. like in what world would that ever be anything other than deeply misogynistic
and then to turn around and shit on people headcanoning that same character as bi because god forbid he likes any of the women hes actively chosen to date. are you hearing yourself.
so glad the tron fandom basically agrees pretty much everyone is bi and poly
love how Tron can have a million boyfriends but I’ve hardly ever seen it suggested that he voluntarily chose to leave Yori, let alone that he never actually wanted her (perish the thought!)
Even Jordan, the love interest for Kevin Flynn who was so neglected by canon that she never even appeared on screen and was killed off immediately after she’d served her purpose of giving Kevin a son so the second movie could be about him? Even she gets treated decently in fanfic, most of the time. Just imagine.
Not even just with relationship stuff, I love how the Tron fandom is basically like do whatever with the canon. It feels like a small pocket of Old Internet before everyone was at each other’s throats. It truly is an oasis of a fandom.
Exactly.
I mean, like, sure, there have always been some flamewars over pairings and canon interpretations in every fandom. But I do remember times and places in early online fandom where that was not the norm, and where the people saying “ship and let ship” and “don’t like don’t read” outnumbered those yelling at others for how they did their fanworks.
And I feel lucky to be in a fandom where that’s still mostly the case. Where… yeah, there are some trends to how stuff from canon is portrayed (mostly respectful trends that I appreciate, as described above!)… but if someone doesn’t like the common trend, or if they prefer a variation that many others dislike, it’s not common to see people expressing their dislike with outright vitriol.
whatever the fandom, we’re here to have fun and enjoy stuff. and when I try to count my blessings in this messed-up world, I always include being in a fandom that mostly encourages that.
