so my brain has always connected the poem about Ozymandias, King of Kings, to the poem about the blind men and the elephant

and I think it’s because of the fact that both are topics that multiple people wrote poems on, and the one we usually think of is just the most popular one that survived to this day

though looking it up to refresh my memory, the circumstances were pretty different (the two Ozymandias poems were Percy Shelley and Horace Smith in a friendly competition with each other, while the blind men and the elephant were various different unconnected authors retelling an ancient tale)

(rather fitting anyway, since the concept of multiple authors writing their perceptions of the same ancient tale is really the same sort of concept that tale was about)

Anyway, of course the reason it occurred to me to actually consciously think about this connection between those two poetry topics in my mind, is because I just got a flash of incorrect-quote dialogue appearing out of nowhere:

…

“two vast and trunkless legs”

“what are you talking about, man. One vast and legless trunk.”
