In high school I had one history teacher whose super-hyper-fixation was on the Russian revolution and what led up to it, so we studied a LOT of writings from then, and many details from that class have stuck in my memory a long time

And, I seem to remember one of the early Marxist texts responding to some pearl-clutching about free love and sharing of sexual partners in Marxist communes… their defense was that the traditional capitalist way of life also involved sharing of sexual partners, it was just all done dishonestly behind each other’s backs

So yeah I guess it is “wanting it all”… the monogamous having-your-cake and the polygamous eating-it-too
