went on a deep dive to figure out exactly what happens with lora and the laser in tron 2.0 and found out apparently, due to the flynn lives ARG thing that happened around the time of legacy, she’s actually canonically alive???
AND THAT ALAN HAS HER IN HIS CONTACTS AS “THE BEST”??!!!!!

update: watched The Next Day and i’m so glad i haven’t written a ton of OC stuff because i’m already getting new ideas for where i want this to go…
also i’m screaming because they gave us such a good setup and then never followed through 😭 i need an alternate timeline where we actually got the continuation of that story
update part two: watched the first half of the speech alan gives in which he introduces lora as his wife and no i’m not crying (i definitely am)

I found it was an excellent sort of catharsis to learn as much as I could about the source material, the various branches of it, and what the fandom tends to interpret as the canon–
so that I could THEN go off with my fanworks to make it exactly what I wanted
…and do so with full knowledge of whether I was creating a straight-up AU…. or an interpretation of canon that doesn’t actually contradict any of what is “proven” to have happened, but is VERY different from how fandom usually interprets it
…I tend to prefer the latter, so it’s important to know where I need to apply Creative Interpretations and extra clarification of what I’m doing.
Though, yeah, there are also different branches of canon and some branches that are treated as noncanon or less canon than others… and there’s enough contradiction that you pretty much have to disregard some parts, unless you’re going really full-out in an interpretation geared toward reconciling all the contradictions.
(Which I’m usually not. I’m usually just trying to find a way to make a few characters happier than the usual interpretation of canon would have them.)
