The Twilight Zone

Time Enough At Last

Original air date:  November 20, 1959

A henpecked book lover finds himself blissfully alone with his books after a nuclear war.

always sympathized with this guy

Especially because

- If it really was a nuclear war, he isn’t gonna live long anyway (radiation poisoning)

- If it wasn’t actually a nuclear war– if it was, like, an earthquake and evacuation to the next town– that would explain everything better (why there are few if any human bodies, but all inanimate objects are still intact)

- I have a whole tragic headcanon about this guy where he recovers from his moment of despair at the end… finds a shop with reading glasses close enough to his prescription…. spends next several days as a full time reader with zero distractions…

- and then his damn boss and everyone else come back from evacuation to rebuild the town

- they’re like “wtf you just assumed everyone in the world was dead and went on happily with your life” and he’s like “I FINALLY HAD TIME” and theyre like “youre fired”
