so i’m no huge fan of rideshare and delivery apps, but this? this post?
completely fake. the article linked above thoroughly debunks it.
I admit that I fell for it because of massive confirmation bias. It fits with what I believe about Uber Eats etc. - sneaky, outrageous, breaking privacy and decency…
From the linked article:
And one more from the social media age: you should always be at your most suspicious online when someone is baiting you into outrage.
Ugh.
I hadn’t shared the original post, but I’d believed it, because it isn’t too far from the well-known facts about these companies. And it frustrates me to know that there’s no clear way to be sure what’s true
…and, as a corollary to that, it also frustrates me to realize that a post like the second, debunking one could also very easily be made dishonestly, if the creator had some interest in making himself look like he’d debunked the prior one
(I don’t think it was, because the website seems more legit than the anonymous reddit post. But who knows? The website also has ads for AI, and begins with the writer saying that AI tools often make his job easier)
(looking at the source is a start… but who even knows anymore. trust no one. ha)
