Fact: censorship is becoming more and more scary online

Fact: there is a growing push to make all websites legally require users to “prove they are adults” before accessing any pages considered inappropriate for children

Fact: any method requiring actual legal ID to be entered into a website would be horrifically dangerous from an identity theft perspective

Fact: no method would actually stop an underage user, because children live in the same house as adults and all forms of identification that the adults have

Fact: many of the methods proposed (and already used) are extremely ineffective at actually detecting a person’s age (face scanning, text analysis, etc)

Fact: so far there is no law specifying what types of adult-verification methods would be acceptable for a website to have.

…Fact: if Kosa passes, this bullshit is going up on my fanfiction site:

a captcha-type image, headed with "select all squares with data storage methods only a true 80's kid would recognize." The squares include pictures of USB drives, car parts, emoji, floppy disks and drives, Tron from 1982 (holding his disc), Father Jud from Wake Up Dead Man, glazed doughnuts, the Mission Status Sick cartoon, and an ad for Tumblr premium.ALT
