we cannot keep having these baldurs gate 3 and critical role people voice acting every new game. we need random people. people whose only credits are random low budget live action TV shows. someone who just works in the same building as the localisation team. anything. please. if i hear matt mercer ever again there will be consequences

In my ideal world I would never see or hear an actor i have ever seen or heard before in anything. they would be brand new just-discovered nobodies every time.

this would be considered normal, because putting an actor that people recognize in a work of fiction would be just ludicrous. it would require the viewers to theorize that the story takes place in some alternate parallel universe where (famous actor) never became an actor and ended up being (whoever the hell this character is). and that is an absolutely unnecessary layer of suspension of disbelief to demand from your audience and why the hell would you do it

actors would be considered “overexposed” once they had been in more than 1 unconnected movie or show that could conceivably have been watched by any of the same people. They would be given a generous retirement package and expected to disappear from the public eye forever, so that movies featuring them could continue to be watched and considered believable due to not containing any obvious celebrities pretending to be something else. (And also so that the entire activity of keeping up with actors’ personal lives like they’re a damn soap opera ceases to exist)

i am extremely sane and you should elect me leader of the entertainment industry

I keep thinking about how this scenario would put a huge amount of pressure on the actors, because many of them would only get one shot to get their performance just perfect.

If your’re lucky enough to get the lead role in a TV series or movie series, you’ll at least have some opportunity to improve your acting and refine the character over time. But imagine that you play a character who only shows up in one episode, or maybe just a few minutes in a movie. Bad guy of the week, or guy who gets killed early in the film to motivate the main character, etc. You might just get one scene in your entire career, one brief moment that you’ll be remembered for for the rest of your life.

I don’t care how generous the retirement package would be, if I didn’t deliver a line with the right emphasis, or stumbled slightly during an action scene, I feel like that might irk me for as long as I live, if I never got the opportunity to play another role.

I’m picturing every actor begging the movie director for just another reshoot of every scene, because they don’t want to live the rest of their lives as “stormtrooper who bonked his head on the door”.

hahaaaa

okay you are very right… I was mostly shitposting, and this is not a fantasy that would hold up AT ALL as a real-world policy, lol

…if it did become the norm, I suspect there would be a greatly increased demand for roles that make the actor unrecognizable. That stormtrooper would have his helmet on the whole time.

Doug Jones’ career would be completely unchanged
