I don’t think it would deeply interest me, in any case.
I mean, I’ve read fanfic about it that I didn’t dislike. But the premise in itself isn’t my thing.
There’ve already been soooooooo many works of fiction dealing with the experiences of a non-human being that tries to live in the human world and have human experiences. Basically… it’s been done so much, I’m bored with it.
I wanna see more of the reverse– humans learning what life in the other world is like.
AND more about the natives of that other world just living their lives and doing the stuff that’s normal to them– showing what is truly meant by having a different normal.
speculative fiction deals so much with the concept, “what is normal life like, for someone from a very different place, someone who’d find our world abnormal? what things do we assume, take for granted, about how life works? what other ways could it work?”
this is, IMO, a vitally important thing for people to explore– largely because it opens them to thoughts about different humans with different lives in this world
but I’m tired of the approach always being, “lets show the visitor from the other world trying to live in ours. (and incidentally always concluding with the moral that ours is better.)”
it can be done well, it has been done well… I just don’t care to see that side of it every time. and, at this point I’ve seen enough of it for the foreseeable future.
but… let’s be real… I don’t advise coming to me for the pulse point on what can be done well in fiction.
because I’ve been realizing that “exploring what we don’t view as normal” is my obsession… to a degree that is NOT in line with what typically is considered good fiction.
my primary criterion for fiction I enjoy is “it’s fuckin’ weird”
as for programs in the user world, I liked Automan better than Ares
so take my opinions with friggin’ battery acid salt, okay
