nine inch nails would be excessive for most hardware uses

unless they’re nine inch fingernails, in which case they would be impractical for pretty much all uses

like when you grow each of your fingernails out to a fairly impractical length of one inch

but not all ten of them, of course. you leave one of them short. because you need it for… stuff
