@ people who carry bags everywhere what do you put in them what is there to bring other than chapstick, keys, phone and maybe a tampon why are you packing a suitcase to be outside for 5 hours
i used to do this but it was because i tended to be the one girl in friend groups of mostly guys, and had observed that this tended to make me the only person actually prepared for any situation (stereotypes of men as being “stubbornly independent” and “refusing to ask a woman for help” are in direct contrast to the frequent reality of the woman being the only person in the vicinity carrying anything larger than a pants pocket) and i liked to feel helpful for my friends, who clearly needed it
in fact for much of my life i disagreed with the clamor for women’s clothes to have pockets… because in my experience, people whose clothes did have good pockets were still always woefully underequipped for life outside the home and dependent on whoever had a purse (which was clearly the better option)
And the only reason my views changed at all was because i (and all of my coworkers) got stranded outside for half a day because there was a sewer leak in the building (in the break room) (which was where my purse was) and the people who’d had any necessities in their pockets at the moment of evacuation were at a very clear advantage
…my response was to make myself a whole wardrobe of new clothes that had everything i valued about pockets (hands free; always under your clothes) and none of the things i despise about pockets (too small for my needs; attached to your clothes so you can easily forget something in the wrong pants or god forbid the washing machine)
this is to say, i now wear exclusively dresses in a centuries-old style
(side slits to access a separate pocket undergarment, large enough to transport entire live chickens if i wanted. my skirt would puff out a little conspicuously, I don’t have whalebone hoops or anything, but it would fit)
(have not yet had to do specifically this, but you never know. You never know what you might need, okay.)
