Omg omg omg
So
Back when that post was going around about “what would be the worst bird/mammal combo for a griffin, as defined by how bad it would be for everyone else, while the griffin itself is having a great time”
and my answer was, “cockatoo and potbellied pig” (both fancy and high-maintenance pets with high rate of buyer’s remorse; imagine a flying pig that screams like a parrot, lives to be 70 years old, grows to weigh hundreds of pounds, and poops as often as a bird except it’s pig poop)
But
I’ve just realized another layer to the idea of a pig-cockatoo
A “grice” is (was, technically) a kind of pig (a recently extinct but scary looking one)
Cross that with a Goffin’s cockatoo, one of my favorite species
And portmanteau their names like you’re portmanteauing their bodies
And you have a Griffin
The ur-Griffin, the textbook Griffin, the platonic ideal of the Griffin name
IS MY PIG COCKATOO
yes yes yes
