I act self-deprecating because in the gospel of Luke 14:10, Jesus says that you should choose the lowest place at the table so that the host will see your humility and move you to a higher place than you’d have been able to get otherwise

which apparently was intended as a metaphor about getting into heaven

meaning: Jesus told me this is a social manipulation tactic so fucking effective it will work on GOD

you are not supposed to be lecturing me about self esteem you are supposed to be just GIVING ME all the things you apparently want to convince me i deserve

you are not following christs teachings. dammit

January 18th, 2026 12:28am mostly sarcastic shitpost the real truth is related though which is i act self deprecating because the alternative is acting confident and acting confident tends to be perceived as stuckup and bitchy especially by people who see you as a woman often self deprecation is the only way to be perceived in a friendly and not hostile way when I'm with people i know can take it i brag my ass off because i am awesome and I know it just isn't usually diplomatic to say so
