kawareo:

Tumblr is like our elderly dog and when she makes an especially scary cough we apparently think “oh god it’s the big one”

Yeahhh

We act as if this thing is gonna last forever, but really eventually one of these times it IS gonna be down for good, it’s just really really hard to predict when

Basically it’s built on an absolute dumpster fire of code with a skeleton crew to manage it

And it makes zero profit. The only resources for money to put into doing all this? are advertisers (nobody likes the ads or buys anything from them) and premium subscriptions (there is not enough goodwill towards the site owners, due to their absolutely terrible and heavily bigotry-influenced moderation choices, for any sufficient number of users here to want to give them money)

I don’t know what is currently keeping it going, but it is fragile life support and we can’t assume it’s gonna last any particular amount of time. Like any elderly dying thing it totally could hang on for years and years beyond all expectations… but it’s not something to count on.

please for the sake of whatever friendships here matter to you, try to make some sort of connection elsewhere. just in case
