I just saw a post mentioning Walter the muppet from the first Disney Muppet movie, and it reminded me of how obsessed the Disney corporation seems to be with the name Walter

like. we get it. nod to Walt Disney. but after a point it feels like a religion where the default names for kids are always the top 2 or 3 religious figures and it gets a little disturbing when you are doing this with a corporation

i have never been a Disney fan and was overall kinda pissed off when Tron (1982) managed to get me obsessed, and I still wish it wasn’t owned by Disney (it feels the least like a Disney movie of any that I’ve seen) soo… I’m sure i don’t know anywhere near all the examples of this….

But just from Tron, there’s Walter Gibbs (the guy who founded Encom in his garage and created the chess program that Dillinger eventually turned into the MCP)

(Maybe not not connected to Walter Nebicher from Automan? even though Automan was very much inspired by Tron, though not Disney-owned)

And there’s a behind-the-scenes interview with Dan Shor that when he did the scene as Popcorn Coworker (subtly implied to be Ram’s programmer, and at the time credited only as Popcorn Coworker, though he got the name Roy Kleinberg in the Next Day short after Legacy) apparently the unofficial name for the character at the time was “Walter Dizley”

I dunno, I kinda imagine it would have been unsettling to work on a movie that had all that going on

especially if (just for a random example) that happened to be your deadname
