Ok but like. What the fuck is there to do on the internet anymore?

Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.

Now, it’s just… Social media. That’s it. Social media and news sites. And I’m tired of social media and I’m tired of the news.

Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?

Long collection of resources under the cut.

ALSO you should consider browsing Virtual Pet List and seeing if there are any pet sites you might be interested in playing. There is a whole genre of browser games right under your nose

Another one that I just found recently is this, which is a whole collection of blogs, organized by topic!

Look guys the real internet IS STILL THERE I’m going to cry

Getting off of twitter and onto neocities has really healed me and I am so glad to see it is healing other people too ;u; let’s retreat into the self-made digital woods and away from corporate bs pls, I am so tired

REBLOGGING

Reblogging again

because with everyplace on the corporate web getting worse and worse, i really really want to get more connected with independent websites

Mine is http://www.astercontrol.com – it’s still partly under construction and has some (clearly indicated) nsfw pages, and it’s sorta about Tron fandom but it’s also about how that connects to literally everything else in my world.

Please do check it out if that interests you– i know it’s hard for a lot of people to step outside the feed of the big social media site they’re on, but it’s an amazing world out there

Anyone who wants to share each other’s links / form a webring with me, best way to reach me currently is astercontrol @ proton . me

(Proton email addresses are also, at the moment, still a pretty good communication option for people who value privacy and control of their own online lives. I’m also working on self-hosted email for my website but that’ll be a bit less reliable until I’ve got it all figured out)

Addendum: the problem of “how to navigate all the independent pages you follow in a way that works with how people actually use the internet these days?” is an issue still under construction

but there are a few people working on it!

here’s one!

I’ve been trying to look into how it works and how it could be made to work better, but I’m realizing I’m not knowledgeable enough about coding either… If you have any good advice on how to improve it maybe reach out?

thank you all so much

We will survive together
