They’ve tried this experiment before and it’s like 4 days before the person starts goes crazy and they have to stop.
Whenever i see something like this with a truly ridiculous cash reward like “30 billion dollars,” my focus eventually shifts off of “how well would I survive it” onto “how important is my survival anyway, in light of everything that money could do for others”
In my case, personal survival really would just be a problem of keeping myself entertained; the solitary part is probably manageable. (I regularly do complete solitary confinement for a week at a time, living off supplies stockpiled in my home. i work alternate weeks at a pharmacy and this leaves me absolutely craving a week with absolutely zero in-person contact by the time each work week ends). But, the lack of entertainment is a serious obstacle. And I am not sure I could take it. I can’t even sit through a movie without having a craft activity for my hands to do.
However.
If there were thirty fucking billion dollars at stake… and the only thing standing between those dollars and their correct usage, for the complete restructuring of the US economy and saving millions of people from poverty, was “my desire to not go more crazy than i already am from isolation and boredom”…
Well, turning down that offer would feel like a combination of all the worst atrocities people have ever committed out of selfishness for their own comfort. I couldn’t live with myself. I’d go even worse kinds of crazy.
So yep, padded room for me, one way or another
