“Olympics shouldn’t be political!”
They already are. They always have been. You’ve got athletes representing countries who are literally competing against each other in the names of their respective countries. Even the athletes who compete as independents are still representing their countries, and their having gotten permission to participate is in itself political.
It doesn’t matter if the Russian athletes are competing as independent of Russia. Russia is still claiming them, and still using their athletes’ participation as political power.
