“refrigerator mother” used to be the term for mothers who were cold and unemotional and therefore caused their kids to have autism
i am reclaiming it, because my mom was the classic refrigerator mother and 1. she did give me autism, by being undiagnosed autistic herself and passing on her genes; 2. this was much better for me than if I’d been a random fluke in a family of super-social neurotypicals, since she actually understood me and didn’t try to force emotional shit onto me that i couldn’t understand or enjoy, and 3. this is why i am not entirely rotten to the core, so she was a pretty effective refrigerator mom if you think about it
