“i can’t believe i have to deal with this brain for my whole life” wrong! neuroplasticity
but
if neuroplasticity can change it enough to be no longer the same brain
then that would mean I’ll no longer be the same me
and the rest of “my” whole life will already end
when the same brain does
so this is another way of saying yes i have to deal with this brain for my whole life
rather, “you”, “your life”, and “your brain” never existed except as highly dependent processes running through the universe. no one has to deal with nothing for no amount of time.
indeed. The boundaries of those terms are as vague as the boundaries of any categories. Who decides what counts as “me,” and therefore “my” anything? Who defines where it ends and begins? And if the answer is “me,” what delightful circular logic that is.
the consciousness in this body has to deal with whatever this body has going on. But both consciousness and body are more verbs than nouns, more processes than entities.
Both are a continuing series of momentary states, frames in an animation… anything they experience is the animation in action.
any measurable quality of any of these states is certain to be replaced bit by bit over time until unrecognizable.
Which is close to the original point of the post… everything can change, everything is guaranteed to change.
in some sense “I” am stuck with “this brain,” thinking in the above-demonstrated (excessive, convoluted, irritatingly philosophical) way, for some unknown amount of time.
But in another sense, the universe is stuck with both processes until they’re damn good and ready to be over.
