“i can’t believe i have to deal with this brain for my whole life” wrong! neuroplasticity
but
if neuroplasticity can change it enough to be no longer the same brain
then that would mean I’ll no longer be the same me
and the rest of “my” whole life will already end
when the same brain does
so this is another way of saying yes i have to deal with this brain for my whole life
Depends on your thoughts regarding the ship of Theseus.
Yep!
…but regardless of where you draw the line on “when do I stop being me,” there’s an unavoidable connection between that and “when does my brain stop being my brain”… and to whatever degree those can even be said to have meanings, or what you’d say those meanings are… I figure they’d end at about the same point.
…but okay, tying it into the ship of Theseus makes it even funnier to me. because what if Theseus and his ship both change over time?
…then the thought experiment becomes even sillier because we have to define not only whether the ship still counts as the same ship, but whether it still counts as belonging to Theseus
The only part that really has to change to make it “no longer the ship of Theseus” is if Theseus changes his name… and/or his owner"ship" title
and I find that hilarious
