I can’t believe there are people in this world who find ‘ambitious’ people attractive. If I was on a first date and the person I was talking to was like “Yeah, I’m an entrepreneur. It’s my dream to be a billionaire.” or “I plan to climb the corporation ladder to the top.” I’d be like ‘Ew, that’s disgusting.’ that is a terrible goal for a life partner to have.

“Well, doctors-” I’d never date a doctor either. Lol.

Thank you for articulating this because I think people were misunderstanding the post! There is a difference between having a passion and wanting to get to the top just so you can look down.

Mm.

As for not dating doctors… well, I can understand why one might not want to (my parents were doctors and I know what they were like to live with) …but it isn’t exactly because they have passion, or because they have ambition to get to the top.

they can have either, or both, depending on the individual. but if it’s mainly ambition, that means they value their own upward mobility over the people it’s their job to help, and that’s shitty. meanwhile, if it’s mainly passion, then you pretty much can’t ever expect them to value you or anything else above their job (what else can you put above saving lives?)

my parents made it work, because they were both in the same boat and they knew what they were getting into.

I could probably make it work, because I do not need very much social contact and I would also usually rather be working on my own projects than spending time with anyone.

But then, that is why I’m not dating anyone, which I think is still a better option for my mostly-aromantic self than dating a doctor.

and if you are someone who needs a partner who’s always there for you, you really gotta pick someone who doesn’t give a shit about their job, lol
