doomednarrative:
Writing Legacy era Flynn as a nuanced figure is just par for the course honestly. I love the guy but I'm always having characters from other perspectives critique him, including Sam. He did a lot of good but also was incredibly short sighted on a Lot of things.

this genuinely has been SO much fun for me after realizing just how messy flynn is. like i like the guy, he’s a cool character and has really cool motivations and then just…gets distracted and bogged down by life and it kinda leads to his own destruction.

my favorite thing that has also been a very fun line to tread is figuring out how i want alan and tron himself to react to the fact that flynn literally abandoned tron – his best friend’s beloved program – to die. and, not to mention, the fact that lora was very apparently part of legacy canon even if we didn’t see her and yet…we also never saw yori? meaning either A, flynn never asked for her/moved her over or B, flynn moved her and forgot to tell her and/or tron.

and then the trickle-down from that, which falls into my current fanfic: how does elanor (alan’s daughter, flynn’s niece of sorts) react to this? how does it make her feel to know the program her father cherished and worried about and treated almost like a third son (even if he never heard anything from or about him after flynn’s disappearance) was essentially abandoned by her father’s best friend?

it’s seriously SUCH an interesting dynamic and i am forever thankful to (i think) @astercontrol for making the post about flynn’s shortcomings because hoo boy i love the guy, but it’s so fun for his piece-of-work-ness to bleed into consequences he never saw coming.
