according to my original tags, this applies to all the skills I learned as a kid in the 80s that aren’t regularly learned anymore (and yeah I have other skills besides just “being an old person” but those ones all really are special superpowers that I’m insufferably aware of)

However. Gotta add this.

I just remembered that other people for some reason also find it impressive that I can listen to someone talking without looking at them

i had teachers all through school who would be 100% convinced I wasn’t paying attention to their lecture because my eyes were on some random drawing i was doing, and would then be surprised when I contributed relevant questions and insights without looking up from my drawing

i think maybe humans are so resigned to having terrible body design with multiple very different functions crowded into the same area (especially mouth and privates) that they forget their ears and eyes and hands are really very nicely separated and can perform their very different functions at the same time
