unsettling things about Tumblr:
1. sometimes there are anons who seem to spend a lot of time on vaguely critical, vaguely off-putting messages that don’t contribute any new or interesting ideas to the conversation, and it’s unclear what they’re trying to accomplish by this, and honestly sometimes it feels like they’re following the spambot playbook of making a pointless statement just simply to have it exist on your blog… except that only accomplishes anything for a spambot if the comment links back to its own page, so why would someone ever be doing that on anon
2. when I try to brainstorm possibilities, the first thing that occurs to me is “maybe there’s some deeply buried but technically accessible feature in the settings that lets a Tumblr user retroactively turn all the anons they’ve ever sent into non-anonymous asks that do link back to their page,” and due to the nature of Tumblr this feels almost kinda plausible
