i wish there was more it/its positivity that wasn’t just “hell yeah look at you go funky little goblins/otherwordly beings/freaks/objects”
this is really important actually i wanted to link one of my fav tweets on this subject :>
if they do consider that “it” can refer to a mountain or music or the sun or love… they will probably conclude that the reason it can refer to those things is because those things are not alive and cannot think
even when they accept that it can refer to big, amazing, awe-inspiring things… most people still feel that the defining characteristic of “it” is something like, “does not have a conscious brain or mind”
…and oddly enough, they will not take a moment to consider which pronoun they themselves always use for the antecedent “my brain” or “my mind”
for example, my brain or my mind (as a whole) is pretty much always “it/its”
as in: “that makes my brain hurt so bad it is gonna explode” or “my mind cannot handle that right now, it’s way too tired”
specific parts of my brain or mind can have different pronouns though
pretty sure when I use “I/me” pronouns that’s referring to what I call the sysadmin braincell (who’s probably more accurately called the “ego” or “superego” or something, idk)
Pattern Recognizer’s pronouns seem to be it/she, though. They switch off, and I can’t quite figure out which is used when, but I think “she” tends to be used when she’s being particularly… active about something
(can’t discount the possibility that Pattern Recognizer likes these pronouns simply for the pun. About being full of shee-it. Or making my brain itshy. Typical Pattern Reco behavior)
