“there is no platonic interpretation of this” yeah duh, this happened a couple thousand years too late for Plato to put in his two cents on it. He used those to pay the Styx ferryman in like 300-something BC. we’re not Achilles and Patroclus, dude. (Who he did have an interpretation of, btw, and the Platonic interpretation of them was “they definitely fucked and Pat was on top”)
Other things that have Platonic interpretations:
geometric shapes and abstract concepts (they live in the real world and this is all just a shadow of it)
your soul (it’s immortal because it’s more like an abstract concept than a thing that can be destroyed)
politics (best ruler is a philosopher-king, but those are rare and most societies will degrade down to tyranny. Also democracy is the second lowest step before tyranny)
himself (forgetful, stupid)
Also, wrestling.
Hahaha yesss this too!
(… I love the idea that Plato succeeded in so many arguments just because the other philosophers were afraid he’d beat them up. Warrior king who thinks he’s a philosopher-king.)
