my favorite archaeological fact:
if people made a thing
and made enough that ANY of them survived to be found, tens of thousands of years later
then, almost certainly, whatever the thing was for? was a thing people did repeatedly
and that? is pretty much the definition of “a ritual”
therefore, archaeologists saying a thing was “for ritual purposes” isn’t hilarious because it’s wrong.
it’s hilarious because it’s obvious.
