Posts that make me remember a book from my childhood about a badass problem-child named Harriet who has a pet snail that she keeps as a “bodyguard” (unclear what it can do to protect her, because it is a snail and she is an extremely badass kid who can definitely defend herself) (no I totally did not try to become this kid for a while in my early childhood)
but then the snail disappears. and she HAS a snail whistle to call it. but it’s not coming. So she tries to get a new “bodyguard” and ends up with a crocodile stolen from the zoo
and iirc the snail does return at the end, and is reunited with her, just in time for all the crocodile shenanigans to get wrapped up
(because it heard the whistle but it just took a while to get there, okay? It’s a snail)
…Ok yep. this book does exist. And adults should not be allowed to rate children’s books.
