I mean, I have not thoroughly researched the whole thing, because my fannish interest is not really focused anywhere outside 1982… but from what I understand they didn’t have anything to lose with Tron Ares because Leto funded it himself. They didn’t even have any more plans to do anything with Tron until he proposed that.

The only potential thing they’d have to fear would be his reputation harming theirs…. and Disney’s PR team has managed to sanitize their own hellish reputation enough that this probably feels like nothing in comparison.

But I do hope that this will change with an actual legal conviction. (Not holding my breath for that though)
