….I wonder if this “standardization of ages for comparison” ever results in unfair comparisons though?

Like, if there is actually any significant difference in performance between racehorses based on age, even within the same year… then an older horse and younger horse from the same year would be treated as being on equal footing by that metric, even though one has an advantage?

(this only occurs to me because it reminds me of how American schoolchildren’s ages are standardized by grade, so a child born in June is always gonna be the youngest kid in the class and that makes a very noticeable difference in the early grades)

(one of the VERY few factors by which i will grudgingly admit there’s some possible, indirect link between personality and fucking zodiac sign)
