can’t figure out how to pronounce “photographing”. as in, “he started his career photographing” (as read on wikipedia)
is it photography with an ng at the end? fuhTAgruhfing?
is it photograph with an ing? FOtografing???
help??
I always say it the latter way, FOtografing, I’ve never heard anyone pronounce it like photography with a different ending
does that not sound wrong to you, though? it’s such a weirdly stressed word
It does sound weird but not as weird as the other way.
Even more weirdly, to me it sounds less weird transitive than intransitive.
Your example, “he started his career photographing” (assuming that’s the whole sentence, not saying what he was photographing, just saying that was the activity he did)
that sounds a little weirder to me than if it had an object, like: “What are you doing with that camera?” “I’m photographing the cat.”
Maybe it’s because the first example calls to mind the profession name “photographer,” and contrasts with the pronunciation of that
while the latter example calls to mind the verb “to photograph” (which, by itself, almost always has an object) and sounds more natural because there’s no contrast?
i dunno.
