Reaction images I’ve grown to hate:
-the “stupid hat guy” image where someone makes up an exaggerated strawman caricature of an opinion to illustrate a point about how bad the opinion is, and then someone comes along expressing basically exactly the same opinion as that exaggerated caricature
(It’s not a wholly inaccurate point, but almost every time I’ve seen it used, the response being mocked as a “strawman-come-to-life” opinion was actually “obvious joke/sarcasm,” or “obvious ragebait troll,” or “actually a decent point that’s significantly different from the exaggerated caricature,” or “actually fully agreeing with OP but with slightly awkward wording that got misinterpreted as saying the opposite”)
- That screenshot of that one post about how it’s so much better to draw a picture of a stranger you saw in public than to take a photo without consent
(drawing a stranger without consent is also creepy– and also, if I’ve gone all-out being creepy and put in the work sitting there with my pencils and sketch pad for twenty minutes creepily drawing the guy in a weird outfit on the bus, I am gonna be PISSED if the best thing you can ever think to say about my backbreaking artistic creep-labor is just to screenshot someone else from a totally unrelated post saying “thank god it isn’t a photograph”)
Tbf, as far as the “drawing vs photograph” thing goes, I’m pretty sure the original intention was specifically about not sharing faces/identifying marks to protect against other people using it to stalk them or something. But as per usual it’s been amplified far past the original point.
Yeah that’s definitely the original intent
The feeling of insult to the artist comes from how it’s ALWAYS the most common response, like the quality and effort in the art doesn’t even matter, the most common thing anyone can think of to say is “you did a drawing! Not a photo!”
And also how it implies the art isn’t good enough to be recognizable and thus endanger the person at the hands of whatever stalkers they may have.
(half-joking about that last part… but, as a person who does frequently go out in public in weird outfits, I can attest that any artist rendition of me that captured my outfit well enough to show what’s so delightfully weird about it would also capture it well enough to be recognizable to everyone in my neighborhood.)
